I guess my opinion of "Hitch" could be colored by the fact that I watched it at 3am, under the influence of a nice dose of Aleve Cold and Sinus during a recent bout of the common cold. You see, despite a charming story and adorable actors, I didn't especially love it, and I'm not sure why, considering my love for anything featuring Will Smith.
Will Smith plays the sexy, self-confident lead role of Hitch, a date doctor who only takes on clients who are truly infatuated with a woman for all the right reasons. Despite playing Cupid for others, he has yet to be in a serious relationship. Eva Mendes plays opposite as Sara, the sexy, self-confident reporter who leads such a rewarding life reporting on celebrities and socialites that she doesn't need a deep meaningful relationship, either. Naturally, they're born for each other.
What follows is a fluffy, romantic comedy where the date doctor who can get just about anyone to fall in love repeatedly falls flat on his face in his own efforts to woo Sara. And I'll admit, it was cute and I enjoyed it for the most part. But it felt like it went on forever. (Again, maybe it was just the medication, but at 133 minutes long, I don't think so.) Overall, I'm glad I watched it, because it was sweet, and I'm a sucker for a cute love story. But I'm really glad I didn't buy it, because in the end, I don't want to watch it a second time, even if it does have Will Smith in it.

My feelings are good not great on this one. Will Smith tries to play the dating doctor but it turns out that he needs some thereapy when he falls for a reporter. Its all a matter of practicing what you preach. Some good scenes where Smith's, knowledgeable but shy accountant speaks out especially when confronted with aristocratic snobs. The speedating scene is amusing as well. Howver, the movie is sluggish in spots. Nonetheless the good outweighs the bad.

This is a funny romantic movie. Will Smith is great in this role.

In Hitch, Will Smith proves he has what it takes to be a great romantic-comedy lead: he's attractive, engaging and very charismatic. This movie is sweet without being maudlin, and much funnier than the average romantic comedy. Eva Mendes makes a great partner for Smith and Kevin James' infatuation/relationship with Amber Valetta is hilarious. Hitch is a perfect date movie.

Saw this as an inflight movie. Boy, did I pray for engine trouble, so we'd have to land and I could get away! Sucks or what? I liked Smith in 'I, robot', 'Independence day', etc, but this was awful. It's a one-joke movie. Problem is, the one joke was the one plastered all over the TV spots and trailers (the jet ski incident). The highlights involved the subplot of him teaching a guy to be cool - wish that'd been the main storyline instead - far, far superior! Will not be adding this to my wishlist.
