I purchased all five seasons (never watched HBO). The series is interesting in that it is like watching a car wreck. It's hard to decide which character I disliked the most. None have any redeming qualities. But, I guess it's entertaining to see how much lower the characters can and sink. The fifth season wasn't as entertaining as the first four and I suppose the sixth will be even less. I won't be watching it on HBO, But, will probably buy it when it comes out on dvd just to see if any of the characters have formed a scintilla of humanity. Series like 24 and The Shield have people that commit horrible deeds at times but usually are for a greater good not just to benefit themselves. That is not the case with the Sopranos. I will admit the acting is very good.

This is by far the best series to ever hit the tv screen and it just leaves you wanting more and more. I loved this season because it got back to the nitty gritty... what it really is to be a mobster or be involved with "the family."
I hope like heck they return... it left me way too hungry and there is nothing else on cable or regular tv that even compares.
If you like the Sopranos... this is a must have.

This fifth season contains more killings, profanity, sex and another weird dream.
Last season, Tony's wife, Carmela (Edie Falco) finally got the guts to go up to Tony about his adultery and wanted a separation. it was a shout-out battle and the highlight of season four.
In season five, Tony (James Gandolfini) has moved out of the house. Still going out with other women and he still trying to make the moves on his psychotherapist, Dr. Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco). She continues to tell him, "No!" and why. She must stay professional with her clients.
AJ (Robert Iler) is ever more stubborn putting up a front, but loses his toughness when it comes to a grizzly bear cornering him in the backyard. When his mother just can not cope raising her son anymore, she lets AJ live with Tony. While living with his dad, he learns the names of farts. Tony's uncle continues to have problems with his memory. The women finally get to see CITIZEN KANE and reflect.
In episode 11, Tony checks himself into a deluxe hotel room in New York City, telephones call girl, Jade, and has one heck of a dream. The dream changes Tony towards his family, but is still hard for business. Tony commits one of the killings himself.
Guest stars: Robert Loggia is in the first four episodes, but was let go due to the fact he could not remember his lines.
Steve Buscemi becomes a regular for the season.
Patti D'Arbanville appears in the third episode.
Frankie Valli appears in the fourth episode.
Joe Santos (The Rockford Files) appears in the eleventh episode.
The sixth season of "The Sopranos" is the last. The Sixth Season began March 2006 with 9 bonus episodes (the final episodes) to begin airing April 8, 2007.

Definately a welcome return from the slow pace of the Fourth Season. The Fifth Season made me wanting more instead of wondering if the show had "Jumped the Shark."
Eventhough I liked it, the Meadow & Fiance episode was a little drippy.
Stick to what works...crime and getting away with it, rubbing out enemies and cheaters prospering!

Rivetting.......
At least this time I spread it over two days instead of a non-stop 13 hour marathon.
Sopranos 5, like all the previous series, is Fabulous!!
