Fans of the deliciously soapy Bravo reality series Work Out may need to be reminded just how fine a personal trainer Jackie Warner is. This disc is that reminder, containing a fast-paced and comprehensive fitness routine that ranks among the very best. Warner is personable as she trains--and she doesn’t stint on doing the moves herself. She's designed the workout in three chunks, upper body, lower body, and core/abs, which can be done separately or combined for a full hour heavy-duty routine. Because there's little rest between moves, the whole workout seems to fly by, but there's no denying its overall intensity. Warner combines tried-and-true moves (crunches, squats) with some new twists (just try to do that "butterfly" crunch and not feel it deeply the next day). And she's upbeat without being perky--though a viewer could be forgiven for grousing when Warner chirps "I could do these all day!" during Sumo squats. She also gives great attention to form, often working with one other trainer so it feels as though the viewer is getting a one-on-one session too. I work out at a health club (cardio and circuit), but not regularly enough to achieve good results (at age 40+), so I was looking for a flexible at-home solution to augment the health club.
I'll give that the Bravo reality show "Workout" was entertaining and motivating (The Good). I'll give that reality shows in general can muck up their stars' credibility or image (The Bad.) I'll also give that the episode where Jackie cattily snickered about a client's cleavage was disappointing (The Ugly).
In protest, and becasuse I'd heard good things, I tried Jillian Michaels's "30 Day Shred"--but found her Level 2 style a tad abrasive and belittling. (If her routines are going to torment me physically, don't need to augment that with low self-esteem because I can't keep up with her grueling routines or burn that stubborn fat. Found myself cussing back at her on the TV...)!
So I revisited Jackie Warner's "Workout: One-on-One Training." Figured with a successful Beverly Hills fitness club and a rock-hard body at 40 (that my sister enviously insists is from surgery because no one over 35 looks that good without it), Jackie must be doing something right. I started with the 20-minute Core routine every morning, with the Upper-Body routine every other morning. (As mentioned in other reviews--there are three 20-min. workouts--core, upper body, lower body. I have lower-back and knee issues, so I shy away from high-impact lower-body routines.)

.. you'll probably like doing the workouts like I do. I feel like I'm getting a good workout and I enjoy the show therefore its an added incentive to be working out will Jackie and the trainers.

A little about myself...I am great cardio shape however I don't lift weights. I decided I didn't want to spend anymore time at the gym then I currently do so I figured a DVD would be a great place to start. Here is why I love the video:
*It works your whole body
*Each section is 20 minutes (upper, lower, core) and you can choose how many sections you want to do based upon your time limitations or focus.
*Every move is done for 60 seconds straight. It takes your muscles near exhaustion and this is a great way to build muscle quickly and prevents "bulking-up".
*Every 4 minutes there is 1 minute of cardio drills (high knees, jumping jacks, boxing in place, etc...). This is a great way to get the heart-rate up and feel like you are getting a true work-out.
*She focuses on what is important and doesn't add a lot of "filler" to her works out. You know if you do the DVD from start to finish you are getting a full-body work-out from home.
*She is very pleasant to listen to...she is neither or cheesy nor overbearing.

This is the best workout dvd I've ever used. Watching the trainers perform the moves is very motivational (there are low and high level options for each move). You will get an outstanding workout!

This DVD has three sections and you can customize your workout. You can have lower body, upper body, and a core workout. I like Jackie's style of workout.
