Editorial Review:

Product Description:
One of the most influential bands in music, ranked eighth on the list of the biggest-selling groups in history, Metallica unveils its ninth studio album, Death Magnetic. The band's
first album in five years, Death Magnetic is also its first with renowned producer Rick Rubin (Danzig, Slayer, System Of A Down,
Slipknot), first with bassist Robert Trujillo, and first on Warner Bros. Heavy and thrashy, unafraid to embrace the band's past yet move
into the future.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - So let it be written, so let it be done.
I'm back. I've been gone a while. If you're new to me... Heyya! Pleased to meet you! Hope you guessed my name! I'm Creeping Deaaaaaaaaaaayaaaaath!

I've got to say 'Thank You' to James, Kirk, Lars, this guy named Rick Rubin and everyone involved in bringing back Metallica. My band Metallica has neglected me for a long time and I've survived this long quiet time. I've had lots of quiet time in the past 15 years or ... maybe more... it's been really quiet. Did I mention how quiet it's been? This CD is not quiet. It's LOUD. It's Metallica. The perfect example is the chaos at the end of `The Day that Never Comes' into the perfection of the intro of `All Nightmare Long'. That's the only way I can explain the feeling I get when I listen to this band at their best.

I stuck with them through some really quiet times, but geez, wouldn't ya know it? This one is SO loud that people are noticing the clipping of the recording. I can agree a little. Ya maybe they could've mastered this one better. My question to those who complain: When was the last time you listened to Ride The Lightning? It wasn't the best sounding master recording was it? It was really well written tho, right??? Some complain the chord progressions and chords are too familiar. Well--- you just can't please EVERYBODY now can you?

I'm really good with this one. I shall say my thanks one more time for so much less QUIET TIME!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - IMPRESSIVE
I have to say I was shocked, stunned, on my first listen to this album. I had not idea that Metallica had any of their 80s sound left. I have been listening to, and a die hard follower of Metallica since 1985. After St. Anger, I did not know what to expect. After seeing the fallout of the band's recording on "Some Kind of Monster", I fully understood the raw sound of that album. Don't get me wrong, it was very heavy; and, unlike most other fans, I thoroughly enjoyed that album; but it was not the Metallica that any of us came to know and love in the 80s.

Death Magnetic, on the other hand, sounds like it could have been recorded right after ...And Justice For All! If you listen to AJFA and then Death Magnetic it is like a continuation of a theme. Metallica is back and doing what they do best, thrash and speed metal. Definitely, if not the best album they have ever put out, this one is very close. From the intensity of songs like "My Apocalypse" and "That Was Just Your Life" to the polished ballad that is "The Unforgiven III" there is not a song on this album that I couldn't get into, they even have an instrumental (Suicide & Redemption) and we haven't had one of those out of Metallica in 20 years!

Overall I couldn't be happier. I would recommend this to any Metallica fan out there and those that gave up on them after AJFA or The Black Album... give this a spin, you won't be disappointed!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Bob Rock should be hung!
I was very sceptical, and have stayed away from buying Death Magnetic based on the last 15 years of Metallica music. Then I heard the album from start to finish this weekend. I went out and picked it up the next morning.

The first 4 albums are excellent, and they were produced by Flemming Rasmussen. Then Bob Rock came in and turned the "good Metallica" switch off. Now Rick Rubin has been brought in and finally, the masterpiece that should have followed "...And Justice For All". Rick Rubin is a genius!

This album is very loud, progressive and fun to listen to. Death Magnetic is the album off the year, and easily makes Metallica the comebackk artist of the year. You won't be dissapointed.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Awful ... just AWFUL
This is probably the sorriest excuse for an album (second only to LOAD) that Metallica has excreted in their illustrious career. Oh, Cliff Burton must be spinning in his grave.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fantastic return to form. Should have come right after Justice.
I've been a Metallica fan for quite some time. The first album of theirs I bought was Ride the Lightning back in the early 80's. I've continued to buy all their releases, even through the time when most of their early fans abandoned them. You either liked the early stuff, and hated the post Black Album material, or you only liked the newer stuff. Hardly did you ever find a Metallica fan that liked both. I'm one of the latter. I liked both. They had a different feel on the latter albums, but I still liked it. Having said that, since I grew up with albums like Puppets & Justice, I did long for an album like that again. We sort of got it with St Anger (rather underrated), but Death Magnetic was it.

This is the album they should have made after And Justice For All. This feels like old school Metallica, yet with modern production values. Normally when I write one of these things, I say which tracks I like, and why. But I'm not doing that. This disc is totally solid (save for one song which I'll talk about in a bit) from front to back. The first track just starts off with that "WHAM", and it doesn't let you go. It's one of those discs that when I was listening to it in my truck and it finished, I just let it repeat. It's fantastic. Has the twin guitar sound, there's solos again, and we have some good Lars drums. By far and away, not even funny - the best thing since 1989.

The one track I don't care for is "The Unforgiven III". Musically it doesn't fit with ... Read More
