Editorial Review:
Album Description: 2007 archive release featuring a fantastic Jefferson Airplane concert from their heyday, recorded at the famous San Franciscan venue of The Family Dog Ballroom in September 1969 when the group was at the peak of its considerable power. Only recently unearthed from the archives, this release is sure to be most welcomed by all fans of prime West Coast Psychedelia from one of its finest exponents. It features the classic group line-up of Paul Kantner (guitar, vocals), Grace Slick (vocals), Marty Balin (vocals), Jorma (lead guitar, vocal), Jack Casady (bass) and Spencer Dryden (drums). Although only featuring 10 songs, the CD plays for over 79 minutes and includes two extended numbers in which the band take off into wild improvised flight. Attractive digipak packaging with eye-catching poster artwork from the era. Charly.

Excellent live recording, with outstanding vocal performances. The mix does seem a bit skewed, with the instrumentation buried way down deep, although with singing this good it seems almost churlish to quibble (compare with the often ropey-as-hell vocals on Sweeping Up the Spotlight). The overall performance is tight and focused (even if the sound isn't as crisp as you'd like), and the concluding 25-minute jam with Jerry Garcia is rambling, exhiliarating magic.

This is a great sounding live performance of the Airplane. One of the best, if not the best out there now. The vocals are clear and the drums and guitars sound great. The Airplane jams on each song, making each one sound better. Sounds of the sixties--this is great, for I saw them numerous -times at the Fillmore and Avalon in the sixties and I know what they can do during their sets. The jam with Jerry Garcia is great at the end. Get this one, you will not be disappointed. I was at this concert and I remember it clearly. In fact, all the recent cds of the Airplane Live sound great but this one to get.

Voices and instruments out of tune, bad sound quality. Whoever decided to release this ought to be arrested. Don't waste your money on this. If your friend already has it, don't even waste your time listening to it. The only live recordings of JA that don't embarrass them are Bless Its Pionted Little Head and Live at the Filmore East.

This is pretty much what you expect to hear from the them. The jam at the end is pretty good.

I got this principally to give my daughter a taste of an honest-to-dog 60s rock concert in San Francisco. The live performance is captured quite well, and covers most of the Airplane's hits. The jam at the end with Jerry Garcia is worth listening to.
The sound quality could be better (it sounds like a bootleg, but they probably didn't think about the historical aspects of putting a serious engineer on the board).
