Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Facing an indeterminate sentence of weeks/months/years until new episodes, fans of The Sopranos are advised to take the fifth; season, that is. At this point, superlatives don't do The Sopranos justice, but justice was at last served to this benchmark series. James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano in a not-so-nice mood | For the first time, The Sopranos rubbed out The West Wing to take home its first Emmy® for Outstanding Dramatic Series. Michael Imperioli and Drea de Matteo also earned Best Supporting Actor and Actress honors for some of their finest hours as Christopher and Adriana. From the moment a wayward bear lumbers into the Sopranos' yard in the season opener, it is clear that The Sopranos is in anything but a "stagmire." The series benefits from an infusion of new blood, the so-called "Class of 2004," imprisoned "family" members freshly released from jail. Most notable among these is Tony's cousin, Tony Blundetto (Steve Buscemi, who directed the pivotal season three episode "Pine Barrens"! ), who initially wants to go straight, but proves himself to be something of a "free agent," setting up a climactic stand-off between Tony and New York boss Johnny Sack.
Carmela and Tony | These 13 mostly riveting episodes unfold with a page-turning intensity with many rich subplots. Estranged couple Tony and Carmela (the incomparable James Gandolfini and Edie Falco) work toward a reconciliation (greased by Tony's purchase of a $600,000 piece of property for Carmela to develop). The Feds lean harder on an increasingly stressed-out and distraught Adriana to "snitch" with inevitable results. This season's hot-button episode is "The Test Dream," in which Tony is visited by some of the series' dear, and not-so-dearly, departed in a harrowing nightmare. With this set, fans can enjoy marathon viewings of an especially satisfying season, but considering the long wait ahead for season six, best to take Tony's advice to his son, who, at one point, gulps down a champagne toast. "Slow down," Tony says. "You're supposed to savor it." --Donald Liebenson

The best series ever. Extremely well written. Intriguing characters. I've seen every one and they are awesome. It's worth buying every season. You can watch them over and over again. Great til the end.

Season 5 of the Sopranos brings about some exciting changes and developments for many of the characters. It is entertaining and enthralling to watch. It kept me up late at night, just to watch "one more episode". Yes, officially addicted.
What I enjoy about the Sopranos is that each season they bring about some new characters, most of which are great "villians". It keeps the show fresh and interesting. Here we meet Tony's cousin, played by Steve Buscemi.
I can't say enough good things about this series, but as I'm reviewing all 6.2 seasons right now, I guess I am running out of original things to say for each. But I just wanted to take the time and add my opinion for each so that each prospective viewer can add my vote to the count that says "Don't miss this show!"

Not the best season of the show but a must have if you wanna finish the series.

The fifth season of the acclaimed drama `The Sopranos' brought us lots of, well, drama. There are new developments in the lives of old friends and even some enemies as well as some new characters that make some hefty impacts on the family, both personal and business. The fifth season builds a lot on the man that is Tony Soprano, maybe even delving deeper into his character than any season before it. Through his actions we see his line of integrity and responsibility as well as his ruthless demand of respect and unfailing loyalty. By the time this season draws to a close we know Tony more than maybe we ever have before.
There are quite a few things that happen throughout this season that directly affect Tony. First of all he is dealing with his split from Carmela (as of the last season's finale) and his struggle to remain civil with her while still managing his pride is a hard pill to swallow. Anthony Jr. is increasingly getting more difficult to deal with and continues to give Carmela heartache over their current situation. This begins to take its toll on Carmela, especially while watching Tony and AJ's relationship grow deeper. Tony also has to deal with his recently released cousin Tony Blundetto (or Tony B.). Tony had been in anticipation of Tony B.'s release but Tony B. seems to have another agenda, an agenda that at the end of the day causes problems not only for Tony but for the entire family. Tony also meets someone from his father's past, a lover ... Read More
