Editorial Review:
Description: This hilariously sexy, all-star comedy promises to be an entertaining treat you're sure to love! Featuring some of today's biggest comedy favorites, including Carol Burnett (TV's THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW), John Ritter (BAD SANTA), Michael Caine (THE CIDER HOUSE RULES), and Christopher Reeve (SUPERMAN) -- NOISES OFF! is an outrageously funny look at the love, lies, and deceit that take place behind the scenes as a group of ridiculously inept stage actors rehearse a Broadway-bound play! Just when members of this chaotic cast finally get their performances right, everything starts going wrong!

We ordered this movie after seeing a hysterical local High School production that our whole family loved (ages 8 and up), and reading the reviews on Amazon. Unfortunately, we were disappointed....it just wasn't that funny. Perhaps we were "spoiled" by seeing the live version? In any case, we passed it on to my FIL...hopefully he will enjoy it!

Director Lloyd Fellowes is desperately toiling to get his show on the road for tryouts. A third rate cast, riddled with jealousy, drinking problems, and various personal neuroses, thwarts him every step of the way. Noises Off follows this dysfunctional ensemble from final rehearsal to Broadway opening. The rehearsal scenes that open the movie are by far the best in terms of acting and comedic success. The rest of the plot rehashes those scenes, now plagued with a hundred different unforeseen disasters, in different cities, to the point where the movie gets tiresome. Perhaps due to faults in the screenplay or editing, there is so much going on, both on stage and behind the scenes, that the action degenerates into repetitive slapstick. The hapless players gamely try their best (and that's saying something with the likes of Carol Burnett) but much of what should be genuine farce simply falls flat.
Noises Off isn't a bad movie, but it isn't great either.

Noises Off...
I first saw this movie at least 10 years ago with my eldest son and we both laughed so hard we were crying. I have seen it many, many times since and see new humor each time I view the movie. John Ritter is at his ultimate best. I never realized Christopher Reeves' gift for comedy until "Noises Off". I would recommend this to anyone who really enjoys a good belly laugh,
