I love this movie. It is not overtly sexual. There are no nude scenes other that some shirtless frat boys. It is a romantic story. I think it is geared more toward the straight acting guys out there. There is one scary queen in it. You will not miss him/her/it. Lol! This movie shows heterosexuals at their best and worst behavior. For me, it's a comfort movie. If I have a bad day or just need something easy on the mind, this is it. Some may not agree but it is a favorite of mine. If you like this you should also see "The Trip". It is romantic, funny, serious, & heart wrenching.

Now, I have to admit..the acting in this movie is not the most stellar you will ever see on the planet. BUT, if you look beyond that to the message....this is the movie for you. It probably is one the movies in my collection that I watch the most.
You have frat brothers....2 gay, one straight. A great story line...and a truly great story about how allied (straight) persons can be a great support to GLBT individuals in need! I love the ending of the story (which I will not spoil for you).
It's not too deep...but great to sit and enjoy!

Read the review by J.Edkin, I can't describe this movie much better. It is a sweet gay romance with many cliched elements like coming out and violence, but it is very realistic (listen closely to what seems to be some bad dialogue or poor writing and you will realize that is how college students really do talk and act!) and quite touching. The eye-candy is great, from the 2 gay leads to even the straight best friend! And Don Handfield, what a cutie--if he told me he wanted to wake up next to me in bed there is no way I could say no, no matter how in the closet I was! Watch Chilson's facial expressions in the hospital scene at the end and you will simply melt! And watch the credits for a "hidden" scene, that will make you swoon even more! A very enjoyable film. If you like sweet romances (some might call it sappy), you may find yourself watching this movie repeatedly!

"DEFYING GRAVITY"
A College Education
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
"Defying Gravity" (Wolfe Video) is a film that you can't help but like even with all of its flaws and pauses that say nothing. There is a great deal of deep emotion as opposed to cheap sentimentality and the script has all good intentions. It's like a cute little kitten that you just want to pick up and hug. The story is believable and everything seems right on.
There is political incorrectiveness, the movie was made on a shoestring of a budget, the photography is not great and most of the cast are amateurs, but so what? When the two guys in the movie tell each other of their true feelings, all of the rest seems of no importance. The movie is filled with heart and soul and concentrates on the beauty of love. Gravity is defied when baseness and immortality are swept away and what we see is sincere devotion and profane introspection. It is a simple, unpretentious and unsophisticated jewel of a movie.
The movie hits hard despite its flaws. It takes a while to get into the film, until you are halfway to the end you feel uncomfortable with it. Fraternity life is depicted as too convincing. The idea of buying into a group that pretends camaraderie is preposterous (although many of us that went to college actually did the same). It seemed as if we were off on a tour of college fraternity life and then something wonderful happened. The movie began to gather momentum just ... Read More

This film is most definately one of the best I've ever seen. The casting, acting, photography, plot is all top-notch. The story is about a young college student/frat brother "Griff" who's hiding his sexual preference from the world. Although he is in love, he denies his feelings from even himself until his boyfriend "Pete" is bashed for being at a gay hangout, and is rendered comatose and in critical condition. Griff is the only witness to the crime but in order to brings Pete's assailents to justice, must step forward and admit that he was with Pete at the gay coffee shop the night of the attack.
Griff must decide if his love for Pete is as important to him as his status, and reputation on campus. Can he possibly make things right with Pete while keeping his image together, or must he sacrifice his own lifestyle? An absolute INCREDIBLE performance in struggling to find himself in a most difficult situation. A very heart warming tale of love, true friendship with a straight peer, new friendships and the ultimate pursuit of happiness. I LOVE THIS FILM!
