There's a lot of live albums from Elvis, and this is one that was released during his lifetime. I don't really know how to review it; it's great, of course, and was an important gig for him, but is this one any better or any worse than any other live Elvis set? I have no idea. I love 'em all, no exceptions. Decades ago I remember not playing this particular one too often because it had a thin, pinched sound (even more so than the original "Aloha" set). That's been fixed to a great degree, so there went the only distinguishing feature of the disc to me.
It's Elvis Presley, the greatest musical artist of all time. Enough said.

I'm not a big fan of rock music, but "The King" is an exception, and this album is his greatest live concert (although it is similar to the Hawaii concert). This album has an electricity that is high voltage. Elvis first appears to the majestic fanfare from Richard Strauss's "Zaracusthra" and closes with a little "Blue Hawaii", followed by his theme music and the guy saying "Elvis has left the building". It's a fast-paced, humourous, and electric journey. He sings old songs and new songs, rock-a-billy and ballads. His vocal range and inflections are outstanding. He sings with his band, an orchestra and two choirs (one male, one female). I love the part during "Suspicious Minds", where Elvis says "shove it up your nose".
He's the King.

Elvis was made for the big stage. He loved challenges. When there were questions or doubts...he showed up then showed off.Madison Square Garden was a challenge for him...the New York audience was a challenge for him.No doubt.Elvis came....and conquered.Mission accomplished. He goes thru each set in a rapid fire pace and gives the audience no time to brathe...or even sit down. His voice is in perfect shape. His best performances...some of the best of his spectacular career are captured here:never been to spain, polk salad annie, suspicious minds, funny how time slips away, until its time for you to go and I love this live recording of hound dog.He literally reinterprets this classic. This record has to be one of the 5 best of his enormous catalog and one of the best live albums released.

Elvis Presley enjoyed great success with his four standing room only concerts at Madison Square Garden in June of 1972; and this CD shows us why. Elvis is in excellent form for this concert; and his rapport with the crowd runs very strong; almost instantly the audience rests in the palm of Elvis' hand as they whoop and shout for joy as he sings to them.
The concert recording, so well remastered by BMG Recording Studios, begins with "Also Sprach Zarathustra (Theme From 2001: A Space Odyssey.)" This brief yet auspicious theme gets the audience all worked up for Elvis to come onstage. Elvis launches into rousing renditions of "That's All Right" and "Proud Mary" as the crowd loves every second of it. Elvis then switches gears to a slower paced "Never Been To Spain;" and by this time the audience is in total ecstasy. "That's All Right" also features great drums and horns; and the guitars work wonders for the musical arrangement for "Proud Mary," too.
Throughout the rest of the concert Elvis alternates between songs with faster and slower tempos; but they all work well and Elvis bats them all straight out of the ball park! Some incredible numbers Elvis performs include the gorgeous love ballad "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me;" a sublime cover of "The Impossible Dream" with its great use of the piano and "For The Good Times." Elvis sings them all with great sensitivity. Excellent!
Of course, it couldn't be a proper Elvis concert without some ... Read More
