For those who love music this album, along with "blue" from joni mitchell, "tapestry" from carloe king, "tracy chapman" from tracy chapman, "in the wee small hours of the morning" from frank sinatra, is a must hear album, one of the most brilliant albums of all times, and also a great opportunity to meet Elis Regina, the singer considered by the critics to be one of the ten greatest singers of all times. If you love music there is no excuse for not buying "Elis & Tom" and trust me, you will LOVE it.

This record is mainly about the singing of Elis Regina and the songwriting of Antonio Carlos "Tom" Jobim. Elis Regina is a wonderful singer. She has a beautiful voice, a nice sense of style and can handle a variety of material from slow ballads to fast jazzy numbers. Tom Jobim is a songwriting genius and a fine guitar and piano player. The combination of the two makes for a great record. I might have preferred sparser, less pop-oriented arrangements, but the combination of Elis and Tom transcends the background for their performances.

I only wish there were more than 13 tracks on this CD.
I end up setting my player to repeat, because I just cannot get enough.
Of all the music I've ever owned, this is my favorite of all time.

This album is among the best ever recorded in Brazilian Music. Tom Jobim, one the most important popular composers of the 20th century, joins a younger band at the top of its shape. Everybody is playing extremely well, the arrangements are charmingly sophisticated and the sound has an unparalel groove. Elis Regina understands the beauty and blues of Jobim's musical ideas, who at the same time embraces the innovative energy of this band. The album is worthy from the first to the last song.

Two giants of the genre, together on an intimate, heartfelt disc. One of the great treasures of Bossa Nova.
