Product Description: A nation divided in wartime invites its own defeat. Yet that is precisely how America is facing the global war on terror. In a brutally honest assessment, David Horowitz and Ben Johnson show that the American left, led by the Democratic Party, is waging a ferocious political war against its own government that has left our country more seriously divided than at any time since the Civil War. And the consequences could be disastrous. In the fight against Islamic terrorists, America faces perennial questions that have become suddenly urgent: What is legitimate criticism of military policy in wartime? When does criticism cross the line and undermine the national interest? Democrats now routinely cross that line, Horowitz and Johnson show. Their candid and explosive reporting forces us to confront the consequences of these unprecedented attacks on the US war effort. Examining the anti-war arguments of Democratic leaders like Al Gore and Nancy Pelosi, Party of Defeat reveals their fundamental misunderstanding of our enemy and an antipathy to the American cause going back to Vietnam. As radical Islam emerged in the 1970s, it found an ally in a left-wing establishment now thoroughly conditioned to blame America first. Our failure to confront the religious thugs who humiliated us in Iran encouraged the increasingly aggressive and deadly Islamist movement that eventually drew us into full-scale war. Yet the cowardice and neglect of the Carter and Clinton years pale in comparison with the Democrats defection from the war in Iraq a war they first authorized then abandoned. This betrayal of our forces in the field has opened, incredibly, a domestic front in our country s fight for survival against an enemy fanatically devoted to our extermination.

I work as a Nurse in Surgery. As a rule I do not follow politics closely. But with all of the controversy surrounding this last election and the disintegration of our economy I found myself wanting to gain more understanding of what led up to many of the issues being discussed. This book was recommended by one of the radio stations that I listen to on occasion. I found this book to be very thorough, well researched, and extremely eye opening. Especially in light of the newest terrorist attacks in India---America simply can not take the threat lightly. The explanations of how the Radical Left and the Democratic Leadership undermined the War On Terror is appalling. It left me wondering...Why? Why? Why? Do they want to see the war being fought on our soil and in our streets? Do they want to see The United States Of America fall? If not? Then what is their motivation? If it is for gain of personal power at the expense of all else---well---that is just beyond my comprehension. This book made me very angry at the Radical Left and our current Democratic Leadership. They are dangerous to the safety of the USA. I made a vow after reading this to become more politically active and much less complacent.

One of the book's most significant contributions to the task of combating disinformation is its straightforward case for the invasion of Iraq based on intelligence information that was available to Democratic leaders in 2003. In response to the "Bush lied and people died" rhetoric, which has supplanted political discourse these days, the authors dissect the hypocrisy of Democrats and the counterfeit logic of the far left.
It is undisputed that leading Democrats, including Clinton, Gore and Kerry, acknowledged before the war that Saddam Hussein posed a growing security threat to the West and advocated his removal. The rationale for the invasion is codified in the Joint Resolution to Authorize the Use of U.S. Armed Forces Against Iraq, passed on October 22, 2002 (with 29 Democratic senators voting "aye"), which states in pertinent part:
"Iraq both poses a continuing threat to the national security of the United States and international peace and security in the Persian Gulf region and remains in material and unacceptable breach of its international obligations by, among other things, continuing to possess and develop a significant chemical and biological weapons capability, actively seeking a nuclear weapons capability, and supporting and harboring terrorist organizations. . ."
The evidence before members of Congress, based on a consensus of available intelligence, supported the claim that Iraq posed a threat to regional stability and U.S. ... Read More

What an eye opening book about the people who would like to run this country. Amazing.

This relatively slim volume is an important book. Its theme is "How Democrats and radicals unmdermined America's war on terror before and after 9-11" and delivers in full on that premise. "Party of Defeat" is not an apologia for President Bush, the Republican Party or the mishandling of the war in Iraq. Rather, its focus is on how prominent and not-so-prominent Democrats have marched largely in lockstep in a campaign to destroy the credibility of the United States, its miltary and President. Unstated is the reality that all this is done in the name of acheiving power at any price, even the sacrifice of the nation and its freedoms.
To the avid follower of news, world events and politics, nothing here will be new. The falsehoods and distortions of Pelosi, Reid, Murtha, Gore, Schumer, Durbin, Carter and lesser-known Democrats are well known to the well informed. Likewise so are the deeds of Michael Moore, the New York Times and the Washington Post. For those who are knowledgeable, "Party of Defeat' is a well resourced (23 pages of notes) single volume reference to the left's most recent war against the United States. For those less familiar with the facts, "Party of Defeat" is a concentrated course in the truth, one that will wipe aside the misconceptions planted by the left-wing.
Horowitz and Johnson offer nothing that isn't supported by fact.
"Party of Defeat" is a powerful summary of the left's unrelenting war on the United States. Whether ... Read More
