Product Description:
It happened at the ball . . .
Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren't entirely "the thing." And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London's most eligible aristocrat.
It happened in the garden . . .
When Marcus shockingly—and dangerouslyswept her into his arms. Lillian was overcome with a consuming passion for a man she didn't even like. Time stood still; it was as if no one else existed . . . thank goodness they weren't caught very nearly in the act!
It happened one autumn . . .
Marcus was a man in charge of his own emotions, a bedrock of stability. But with Lillian, every touch was exquisite torture, every kiss an enticement for more. Yet how could he consider taking a woman so blatantly unsuitable . . . as his bride?

I thought this book was rather absurd. I do read the genre of romance novels but this one seemed to fit the bill for those who do not read the genre, and think those of us who do are dimwitted.
First there was the whole weird perfume thing. Grown women think a man may be controlled by its scent.
Second, the wishing well scene was very corny.
Third, the whole drunken love scene was so cliché.
Fourth, the baseball segment was really outlandish.
Fifth, (and last, I could go on but...) when she dared him to kiss her the first night, it reminded me of when I played spin the bottle at thirteen.
There are good, intelligent romance novels out there but this was definitely not one of them.

I loved this story and all the books of the Wallflower Series. I have recently moved on to read "Again The Magic" by Kleypas and loved it as well. You don't want to miss this story if you read the Wallflower Series because Lord Westcliff is spotlighted; as this book is about his two younger sisters Aline and Olivia. My only regret is that Olivia and Gideon Shaw don't have their own book; they obviously married later-as they're mentioned in the Wallflower series "It Happened One Autumn." I hope there is a book out there for them and I've somehow missed it because I don't know which romance I like better the in this book Aline and McKenna's (whom were the featured characters, or Livia and Shaw).

Lillian is my favorite kind of heroine, spunky and wild. She's the perfect disruption to Marcus's stoic facade. I re-read the book last night after reading it about 6 months ago and it was just as good the second time around. I actually laughed out loud in some parts of the book. This is how a romance novel should be.

It Happened One Autumn is the second book in Lisa Kleypas' Wallflower series! In this story we meet Marcus (again, since he has appeared in several of Lisa's books prior to this one) a straight laced, do the right thing British earl, and Lillian, and outspoken, headstrong American Heiress! We learn from the first wallflower book, Secrets of A Summer Night, that Marcus and Lillian get under each others skin! They say the cannot stand each other, but we all know what that means! This book throws the two of them together right from the start! They have passionate and intense encounters that Lillian is convinced is due only to the "magic" perfume she wears! This book was fun and entertaining from beginning to end! It was delightful to watch Lillian creep her way in to Marcus' heart, and have them both realize they cannot live without the other! Their is a lot of interaction with all 4 wallflowers throughout the book and it is fun to be able to get to know more about them throughout all 4 books! I really have no complaints about this Kleypas novel..well, except maybe that it wasn't longer! It Happened One Autumn is one of my favorite romance novels and I look forward to any mention of Marcus and Lillian in any of Lisa's future novels!

I was looking forward to reading this book, which picks up where the first one ends. But the fiesty Lillian of the first novel seems to have disappeared in this story. Westcliff seems much the same character as he was in the first book, and his character I enjoyed. But Lillian seems to have gone from this independent, strong-minded woman to very much a wallflower, almost ditzy at times. And I really disliked what happens between Lillian and St. Vincent. As a dramatic device in the story, it just wasn't plausible to me. It didn't make sense. His character does a complete about-face. It especially bothered me since I'd previously read Mine Until Midnight, I think it is, in which St. Vincent is written so differently, he might be another character entirely who just happens to have the same name. Not sure I'm going to bother reading the remaining books in the Wallflower series. I've really enjoyed her other books, but this series just doesn't do it for me.
