Editorial Review:

Product Description:

Crushing your enemies, driving them before you, and hearing the lamentations of their women? It doesn't get any better than this." –Eugene Robinson, ripping off John Milius

That's the sentiment that surges just below the surface of Eugene Robinson's Fight – an engrossing, intimate look into the all–absorbing world of fighting. Robinson – a former body–builder, one–time bouncer, and lifelong fight connoisseur – takes readers on a no–holds–barred plunge into what fighting is all about, and what fighters live for. If George Plimpton had muscles and had been choked out one too many times––this is the book he could have written.

When Robinson and his fellow fighters mix it up, they live completely for the moment: absorbed in the feel of muscles slippery with sweat; the metallic tang of blood mingling with saliva in the mouth; the sweet, firm thud of taped knuckles impacting flesh. They fight because it feels good. They fight because they want to win. And even if they get their asses kicked, they fight because they love fighting.

Fight is part encyclopedia, part panegyric to fighting in all its forms and glory. Robinson's narrative – told in his trademark tough–guy, stream–of–consciousness noir voice – punctuates this explanatory compendium of the fighting world. From wrestling, jiu–jitsu, boxing and muay thai to bar fighting, hand–to–hand combat, prison fighting and hockey fights, from the greatest movie fight scenes to how to throw the perfect left hook, Fight is a scene–by–scene tour of the bloody but beautiful underworld that is the art of fighting.

With his aficionado's enthusiasm and fast–paced, addictive voice, Robinson's Fight combines compelling text with beautiful photographs to create an illustrated book as edgy and interesting as it is gorgeous.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great book
Awesome book!!! If you like people getting punched in the face, and reading (yeah, it's possible!), you'll like this. Great book, cool pics and fun times.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Hunter S. Thomson of fight-writing on your coffee table, only your wife is safe.
As a longtime listener of the webcast "Knuckle Up", I'd heard the rantings about this book and, without a Paypal account, figured this is as good a way to support the art.

I was happy I did.

This book touches on many of the forms fighting takes, some of which I was interested in and others, I found compelling by virtue of Mr. Robinson's prose.

Unique and unflinchingly honest, his writing is coupled with the humility of one who's faced -and lost- to many of the luminaries, legends and reprobates of the fight world.

Think of the internal monologue of Tyler Durden from "Fight Club" if he fought Roy Jones Jr. instead of Jared Leto. Now make him NOT gay, and you pretty much got this book.

I'm confident that if Mr. Robinson wrote about dog shows, he'd find the madness within the reason that people engage in those things too -and I'd find it just as much fun to read- but given this book is about our most basic alpha-male communication tool, I feel there are few writers today that can lend his insight.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fight, is a must-have!
This book is a must-have for anyone who is a fan of the pugilistic arts, whether it's on the streets, or in a ring or cage. Eugene Robinson manages to cover every aspect of fighting and educates the reader, while at the same time, makes you laugh at his own agonizing experiences. I'm an avid MMA fan and have trained for years, and I even learned some new things from this book. I recommend it, highly!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Let's get something straight, shall we?
If you want to read a book that shows you how to fight, well...there's more than enough. There are plenty of books showing the "ancient," "secret," "deadly" art of...some thing or another. That's all fine and dandy, but the truth is that a majority of "black belts" in the world look great doing their katas and competing in their point-system tournaments. But, put them in a situation where they actually have to defend themselves and it becomes humbling, embarrassing, and crushingly apparent that they know nothing of what a "fight" truly encompasses. Ask anyone who knows a thing or two about fighting and they'll tell you the same thing...it's the MENTAL aspects of the encounter that matter most. So, what does it take to be prepared mentally to defend yourself? What goes on in the head of a person that WELCOMES physical confrontation? Well, the answer is read the book! The psychology of it all is laid out better than all of those other books written by nth degree black belts, grand masters, etc. The only black belt I have is the only one that I'll need. It holds my pants up every day.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Everyting a book should be
I bought this book as a gift for a few friends of mine. It was an instant and a unanimous hit with all of them.
