Product Description:
Being undead sucks. Literally.
Just ask C. Thomas Flood. Waking up after a fantastic night unlike anything he's ever experienced, he discovers that his girlfriend, Jody, is a vampire. And surprise! Now he's one, too. For some couples, the whole biting-and-blood thing would have been a deal breaker. But Tommy and Jody are in love, and they vow to work through their issues.
But word has it that the vampire who initially nibbled on Jody wasn't supposed to be recruiting. Even worse, Tommy's erstwhile turkey-bowling pals are out to get him, at the urging of a blue-dyed Las Vegas call girl named (duh) Blue.
And that really sucks.

This is one of the most fun, funniest things I have read in my life; well, next to Christopher Moore's other books.
I can't say much more than other glowing reviews have said and I will not rehash the plot.
It is an imaginative, as always, tale; tightly paced, and though I've never been to San Francisco, he left me feeling that I had when I was finished. This is a fresh and witty take on vampires, and I'm rather glad I found it late, so that I didn't have to wait years for its sequel You Suck, which had me rolling on the floor, nearly.
I consumed this in one short sitting, as I simply could not put it down, and I love his colorful phrasing and crazy similies, metaphors, what have you. Christopher is twisted in the most wonderful of ways. Horror done with such humor is priceless, I say.
Read him!

I had read Christopher Moore "A Dirty Job" and was quite amused by it comic/supernatural plot involving the Grim Reaper. "You Suck" is similar in vain, it tells the tale of Jody, a gorgeous young redhead who's relatively new to the whole vampire thing. She falls in love with Tommy who she turns so that the two can be vamps together. The blood sucking couple tries to get a handle on their new life style while events around them slowly come to conspire against them. The "crew" that Tommy worked with (in the prequel "Blood Sucking Fiends") is now debating whether to stake Tommy. There's also two detectives (again from the prequel) trying to push the young couple out of town. There's a blue stripper who begins to think that perhaps vampirism might be a way out club dancing. And then there's a Goth teen named Abby Normal who wants to be the couple's minion. There are more sub plots and minor characters, but I think you have a basic understanding of Moore's use of overlapping plots and multiple characters. It sure worked in "A Dirty Job". In fact, some of the characters from that book also make their way into "You Suck" with mixed results.
Sadly, "You Suck" is a disappointment. The multiple plots never quite come together like they should, some in fact just sort of wander off aimlessly. Tommy and Jody seem like a nice couple at first, but their characters don't evolve beyond our initial introduction. The character of Abby Normal comes in as a sort of back up narrator ... Read More

I read Dirty Job and finished it but didn't like it at all. My wife recently bought two more of Moore's books (thankfully at a bargain bin) without knowing how I felt about the author. I tried this one and it is worse than Dirty Job, it makes Dirty Job look like 1976 Woody Allen. In this book a bunch of slacker vampires and a bunch of slacker vampire hunters wander around not doing much of anything. It goes on and on. The reader yearns for something new and different like a plot or interesting characters. I gave up less than half way through and it is in my DNA to finish all books I start. Anybody want to buy the author's Sequined Nun book cheap? It's unread.

"You Suck" is the classic love story with a twist. This book is about a young newly bitten, C. Thomas Floor, and the girl he has fallen deeply in love with, Jody, who unfortunately for him, is a vampire. The couple has some obstacles to face throughout the entire book none of which ever ceasing to please the reader. "You suck" is a humorous, fast paced, enjoyable book written by Christopher Moore. Even after the story has come to an end you can't help but keep thinking of what could happen next. "You Suck" is a must read for any teen or young adult.

You Suck is the sequel to The Author Guy's foray into humorous, bizarro vamp-lit, and it's just as zany and enjoyable as its predecessor, Bloodsucking Fiends. I won't go too much into the story except to say that C. Thomas Flood is now forced to accept his newly acquired pale force, a first reaction being to promptly apply liberal amounts of both orange-hued tanning lotion and intense monkey love with his partner in blood, Jody Stroud. Add to that goth-chick and minion extraordinaire Abby Normal, a blue entrepreneur of the night, vamps obsessed with tracksuits, and a huge shaved cat named Chet. That's it, go read the thing for yourself.
I will say though, that Moore has a definite knack for the unexpected in his tales. He simply can't be categorized an author of the funny, since any characters are fair game for an imaginative and grizzly maim or demise. That being said, his ability to absorb the ever-changing and complex vernacular of today's disaffected youth is really an experience to savor, a prime example being his excerpts from the diary of Abby Normal. I can't think of any better description than...gonzo.
