Product Description:
A devil's bargain
Easily the shyest Wallflower, Evangeline Jenner stands to become the wealthiest, once her inheritance comes due. Because she must first escape the clutches of her unscrupulous relatives, Evie has approached the rake Viscount St. Vincent with a most outrageous proposition: marriage!
Sebastian's reputation is so dangerous that thirty seconds alone with him will ruin any maiden's good name. Still, this bewitching chit appeared, unchaperoned, on his doorstep to offer her hand. Certainly an aristocrat with a fine eye for beauty could do far worse.
But Evie's proposal comes with a condition: no lovemaking after their wedding night. She will never become just another of the dashing libertine's callously discarded broken hearts -- which means Sebastian will simply have to work harder at his seductions...or perhaps surrender his own heart for the very first time in the name of true love.

Devil in Winter is the third book in Lisa Kleypas' Wallflower series. This truly was an enjoyable tale, and I recommend reading them in order. Had I not, I would not have appreciated so many things that happened in the other books. I kept thinking in the back of my head how can Sebastian redeem himself. Evie visits Sebastian with a marriage solution that will benefit both of them. Evie, for protection and Sebastian, for money. What comes from that solution is a marriage that becomes real. Where they each quit being what others think them to be, and they turn into what they WANT to be. Sebastian is BAD, REAL BAD, and he doesn't care, but it's a front, and Evie knows it. Sebastian sees that there's more to Evie than her stammers and shyness, but she is a treasure- rich as a sweet and soothing lady. There was a bunch of symbolism (Jenner's Club) that occurs with this book, and the little actions that Evie and Sebastian take. You watch them fall in love, and enjoyable to see Sebastian be brought to his knees.
This is a memorable book, it's very emotional. If you haven't visited this series... You many want to think about it!

This is one of the loveliest historical romances I've ever read. Sebastian is a darling. Indolent, witty and an amoral rake, he constantly surprises himself by his feelings for Evie and his efforts on her behalf. From the beginning he protects and takes care of her. He never mocks her stutters or social clumsiness. The scene where he asks her what it will take for him to get back into her bed is awww-worthy.
Evie is a worthy heroine. Spirited but not foot-stampingly annoying, stubborn but not stupid, she deserves such a great hero. She's a virgin but refreshingly not frightened of sex. Only fear of having her heart broken keeps her from sleeping with Sebastian after their wedding night. This is one of the story's main conflicts and a realistic one, given Sebastian's acknowledged rakishness. Practically she proposes a 3 month period of celibacy for Sebastian to prove himself. Can Sebastian last the 3 months?
The sex scenes are not many but are very sensuous and full of feeling. The sexual tension throughout is superb. Both hero and heroine grow and their HEA is richly deserved. I love this romance!

This is the first Lisa Kleypas book I've read and it definitely will not be the last. I cannot think of a single complaint other than I did not want the book to end. I am an English major from UCLA and I used to turn my nose up at ROMANCE books as formula tripe like a "B" movie to be avoided at all costs. Have I been wrong for forever!??!! I am so glad I picked up this book when I was stuck with a long wait. It has everything a grown up woman wants in a book. A real heroine with heart, brains, guts, backbone, loyalty, filial devotion, humility and beauty inside and out. The fact that she has a disability makes her all the more endearing and lovable. She learns and grows up in the book. The world weary "rake", Sebastian learns and grows up in the book too. The transformation of the two characters as they fall in love is marvelously depicted. Nothing rushed, nothing phony. The shy virgin seeking protection from the infamous playboy. She gets what she wants, protection from her odious family, but she ends up giving her husband of convenience much more than he bargained for. She gives him redemption from the demons in his own life, she literally and figuratively saves him from himself and real live villains. Sebastian is as interesting and challenging a character as one can find in literature. The secondary characters, Evie's father, the Gypsy Cam, the other Wallflowers are all filled out people and the dialogue, the plot, the love scenes, everything about this book ... Read More

This is book 3 of the Wallflower series and if you have not read the first two, you certainly should begin with Secrets of a Summer Night (The Wallflowers, Book 1). Each and every one of Kleypas' books stand alone. However, you will enjoy each much more if you've read the prior and become well acquainted with the characters. Kleypas' absolute gift is taking an unlikely hero or storyline and taking you to a place that you could never have imagined. The subtle journey is a wonder.
Sebastian is the beautiful dangerous rake down on his luck. Evie is the shy wallflower trying to escape the cruelties of her family. Fate and dire circumstances brings them together. What Kleypas marvels at is the intensely passionate, sometimes painful, but always rewarding journey to finding their true love. Once again Kleypas will turn a man incapable of love into the perfect man we all yearn for, but you won't know how or when it happened.
This is my favorite Kleypas book. The storyline and characters will haunt your thoughts for a while. Not many writers can improve year after year. Thankfully, Kleypas does. Enjoy.

I was really looking forward to this book. From the reviews I thought it was going to be the best in the series. I really didn't like it very much at all. It was so dark and bleary. Most of the book took place in a gaming club. Yuck. I missed the light airy feel to the two previous books. I thought Evie, after surviving her controlling and cruel family, deserved somthing a little more flowery and romantic. I also really missed the interaction between the other wallflowers. They really weren't present at all during this book.
St. Vincent was so unsatisfying as the hero. There was no conflict between him and Evie except the fact that she wouldn't give into his demands for sex. Then we had to listen to him whine and complain like a little brat. This book just wasn't for me.
